Jo Lunn, Bowen Technique Teacher and Practitioner at The Hale Clinic in London, is hoping to encourage more migraine sufferers to turn to alternative methods to treat the illness which doesn't have the side affects which can sometimes be associated with conventional medicine such as ulcers, diarrhoea and dizziness.
"Migraines affect individuals very differently and can be triggered from a variety of factors including hormonal imbalances, allergies, lack of sleep, head, neck and shoulder pain or stress and so finding the root cause of the problem is a long winded and often fruitless exercise," says Ms Lunn, who decided to specialise in Bowen Technique after she experienced the miraculous results it has had on her ongoing back problems, caused by a car accident in her teens.
The Bowen Technique is a holistic treatment, treating the body as a whole and not just the symptom it highlights. As it addresses the health of a person as a whole, the varying factors that cause migraines can be addressed, giving the body the best chance of preventing the attacks itself without the need for prescription drugs.
Ms Lunn, who also has her own practice in Malvern, Worcestershire Adds:
"Migraines are nasty enough on their own without having to worry about what side effects you may also be subject to whilst you try to recover. What I love about Bowen is that it is very gentle and non-invasive so patients not only get direct relief at the source of the pain, they also naturally relax during the treatment too. Because migraines can often be triggered or made worse by stress and tension in the body, Bowen gives patients the best chance of tacking the problem, wherever the root cause lies."
