Ladies, if you're over 40, get moving!
A new study reveals that over half of women over 40 are "completely inactive" and only about 9 percent are "regularly active". A team of researchers at the Stanford School of Medicine and St. Louis University found some interesting reasons why the 2,912 women surveyed were not active.
The reasons included not being around people who exercise deters one's own activity, prefer exercising alone, not in a group and activity decreased with age and increased with education level. As well, American Indians / Alaskan Natives and African Americans in the study had the largest percentages of inactive women. Women living in hilly terrain exercise more than do flatland dwellers and care-giving duties are important barriers to physical activity for women.
