Super Antioxidants

Lifestyle Shortcomings: Dr. Lau talks about the predicament that America faces. A similar one of other developed countries where countries become wealthier, diseased of affluence such as heart attack, stroke,  cancer,  and diabetes increase.  Those are the

diseases that are the result of "lifestyle shortcomings." Further, he states that "(a) healthful lifestyle incorporating proper diet, exercise, rest, and effective stress management can contribute to rich, full life, as well as prevent a host of diseases." He continues that "although many factors are involved in developing optimal health, some of which are beyond our control, such as 'hereditary factors,' there are many controllable factors including diet. One very simple food item which is receiving widespread recognition is the 'lowly garlic bulb.'" In his book, he shares with us the latest research finding on garlic and how it may retard or even reverse the aging process, restore memory loss, boost the immune function, nullify the effects of pollution, prevent cancer, reduce stress, and overcome allergy, among others.

Garlic inhibits the growth of Microbes and Bacteria: It was discovered that garlic is a potent broad-spectrum antibiotic. It inhibited the growth of a variety of microbes, including Histoplasma capsulatum, an important fungal pathogen in the central and eastern United States (also Cryptococcus neoformans, a yeast organism responsible for a very serious meningitis), and acid-fast bacteria, including species that cause tuberculosis.

His studies included the effect of garlic on Candida albicans, a yeast organism linked to the overuse of antibiotics. It was discovered that garlic acted on the lipid layer of the cell membrane, interfering with the lipid synthesis of this organism and other yeast organisms. In other words, the garlic caused these microbes to loose their membrane, and the very lining of their bodies, which resulted in their inability to breath. Interestingly, now it is known that garlic also inhibits animal cells, including human cells, from making lipids or fat molecules.

Garlic and Viral Infections, AIDS: Viral infections also are positively affected by garlic. Dr. Lau describes how he knows many patients with chronic fatigue syndrome associated with the Epstein-Barr virus, the cytomegalo virus, the Coxsackle virus and the herpes viruses that respond to garlic. Several studies have shown that garlic inhibits viral multiplication. In studies at the University of New Mexico Medical School, garlic was found to have antiviral activities against the influenza virus and the herpes simplex virus.

Dr. Lau States, "Garlic was shown to potentiate antibody response in animals immunized with the influenza vaccine." A student working with Dr. Lau discovered that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or AIDS virus, does not grow well in the presence of garlic in the tissue culture. Further, he describes how "(a) colleague of mine, doing leprosy research sent me a reprint showing garlic was successfully used in India for treating leprosy."

Garlic and Amebic Dysentery: Another study at Tufts University revealed that garlic stopped the growth of Entamoebia histolytica that causes amebic dysentery. Entamoebia histolytica is a parasite that causes four million cases of dysentery diarrhea in the world each year. It is apparent that garlic has very potent antibacterial, as well as antiviral and antifungal, potential and is effective against viruses, bacterial, spirochetes, molds, yeasts, and parasites.

Free Radicals and Major Diseases: "In this past decade, we have come to recognize that many acute and chronic human sufferings are the result of excess free radicals generated in our bodies."

Dr. Lau designates major illnesses associated with free radicals as the four big A's: arteriosclerosis, aging, allergies, and AIDS."

1. The four big A's: Arteriosclerosis, Aging, Allergies, and AIDS
2. Blood pressure
3. Cancer
4. Inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, bronchitis, cystitis, and diverticulitis; and
5. Chronic degenerative diseases such as MS, et cetera.
