Suggested Chrohn's & Colitis Diet

Foods to include:
• Drink plenty of fluids - distilled water, herbal teas, pure juices
• Fresh, non-acidic veggies (ie/ broccoli, kale, spinach, carrots, celery, garlic, turnips, cabbage, Brussels sprouts) – steam, bake, broil, or juice veggies
• Peeled fruit (raw or juiced) - helps to remove hard to digest fibre
• Papaya - reduces inflammation and aids digestion
• Alfalfa – anti-inflammatory
• Garlic – overall cleanser
• Peas, beans, lentils – great sources of protein
• Brown rice, barley, millet, quinoa, kamut, spelt (if tolerated)
• Fibre – flaxseeds, oat/rice bran – helps to improve bowel function; soothing effect
• Olive, hemp, flaxseed oil – soothing and anti-inflammatory
• White poultry (skinless) and fish

** Fresh fruits and vegetables – improves bowel function, provides essential immune-boosting properties and helps to eliminate toxic build-up.

Foods to AVOID:
• All wheat products, dairy products, red meats, acidic fruits, chocolate, corn, nuts, eggs, foods with artificial additives/preservatives, spicy foods, fried and processed foods, saturated fats, sugary foods (refined sugars), soft drinks, alcohol, caffeine

** During an Acute attack:
• Consume soft foods only. Try putting oat bran, steamed vegetables, and well-cooked brown rice or millet in a blender.
• Try juicing all fruits and vegetables for 2 – 3 days.

NOTES: If bleeding occurs, the antibiotic capsules may be necessary. If constipation persists, the laxative capsules are very effective.

Important considerations:
• Incorporate the “All Time Best Diet” into your lifestyle
• Choose a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables daily – make your plate colorful!
• Drink plenty of pure water daily
• Avoid all genetically altered foods
• Avoid the use of microwaves
• Choose stainless steel or glass cookware instead of aluminum
• Please stop smoking
